SPEECH PATHOLOGIST

Roel is a Speech Pathologist with a strong passion for neurodiversity-affirming practice, particularly supporting autistic teenagers, young adults and adults to develop meaningful social communication skills and authentic relationships.
With a Master of Speech Pathology from Curtin University and a background in Biomedical Science, Roel brings both clinical depth and a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to therapy. His biomedical science background provides a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology and the neurological systems involved in communication and voice, which has complemented his additional training and professional interest in gender-affirming voice therapy.
Roel has a particular passion for supporting autistic teenagers and young adults, with a focus on building confidence, connection and practical communication skills in ways that respect neurodivergent identity and individuality. He is passionate about creating supportive therapeutic environments where clients feel understood, comfortable and empowered to communicate in ways that work for them.
Alongside his formal training, Roel has undertaken extensive independent learning and professional development in Gestalt Language Processing, neurodiversity-affirming approaches and stuttering-affirming therapy. He has a strong interest in understanding the individual communication styles of each client and tailoring therapy in ways that are both practical and respectful of identity and lived experience.
During his final year of study, Roel co-authored research presented at the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) Conference in 2022, evaluating the effectiveness of social skills group programs for autistic teenagers.
